Cycling for Natalie

Story

My little sister Natalie suddenly and unexpectedly passed away from meningococcal septicaemia in 2015, without me having the chance to say goodbye.

Since then my dad, Marcus, Alex and I have been on annual bikepacking trips to try and raise money and awareness for Meninigitis charities. We have been amazed by the level of support we have received over the years, which has gone a long way to trying to adjust to a post-Natalie world, and trying to make some sense out of what has happened.

This year as we negotiate the 'new normal' we have traded sunny continental Europe for rainy Scotland, as we cycle with Naomi through the Outer Hebrides, down through Skye and along the west coast of Scotland.

The cycles have gone a long way to remembering Natalie's name, and ensuring her memory lives on in helping others affected by Meningitis. This has also involved raising awareness of the symptoms of Meningitis, which has always been an important part of the trip. This is as Natalie's symptoms were not the typical rash associated with Meningitis but rather a fever and muscle ache. We want to make sure as many people as possible are able to identify the signs of Meningitis, to try to avoid this happening to anyone else.

If you are able to, please consider donating or raising awareness.
